According to the international bodies’ reports, about 92% of drug discoveries are made by the Islamic Republic, and it is entirely alone in this regard, Eskandar Momeni told IRNA.
A significant cost in the field of combating narcotics includes blocking the border, countering smuggling, identifying and monitoring the transit of drugs, reduction of demand, provision of treatment, decreasing the harm, as well as rehabilitation, which has not received any help from international organizations until today, he added.
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime opened its office in Tehran in 1999, and since then, Iran has established good cooperation with the United Nations in the field of fighting drugs, he noted.
Despite approving Iran’s actions, the United Nations has been dependent on donor countries, which are mainly Western and European states, in the financial field.
He stressed the fact that the most important problem in the process of Iran's fight against narcotics is its proximity to Afghanistan, the largest producer of narcotics, and recently a major producer of Methamphetamine.
